hello fellow ubuntu guru's, using kubuntu natty , had 1 hell of time enabling desktop effects dual monitors. see thread . in end, able work. i've upgraded kubuntu 12.04 , dual monitor + effects function stopped working. in fact, decided fresh install of kubuntu 12.04 start scratch. i've tried importing settings thread link above. in fact made problem worse. mouse stuck @ left side of screen , move , down; in addition, second monitor wouldn't enable after changing enable in nvidia settings. way can both monitors work enabling both x screens , enabling xinerama. however, xinerama enabled, desktop effects disabled , going settings -> desktop effects; says cannot enabled. read thread can comment out "section extentions", option "composite" "disable" of xorg.conf file. once did this, option enable desktop effects open; however, though have enabled, task bar pop-up pretty says effects still disabled. why...

i have old photoshop 4.0 cd , photoshop 6.0 upgrade cd. i running windows 8.1 i had no problem in windows 7 installing 4.0 cd - upgrade 6.0 on that.   but windows 8.1 not allow install of photoshop 4.0 accept full photoshop 6.0 install...... have 6.0 upgrade.   so have catch 22. if try install 6.0 upgrade cd first wants through hdd 4.0 install first. but - isn't there cause wouldn't install on windows 8.1.   what ??????? you should not need have 4.0 installed, should need serial number confirm upgrade installation of cs6.  when activating cs6 should provide option of specifying serial number 4.0 when unable find qualifying version on machine. this quick question idea struck me not long ago. running laptop ati x1200 graphics card - 1 of series amd no longer supports open source. result, have gone having graphics card want do, can't run simple 'bejeweled' type games running in windows. making me consider giving on linux altogether until can afford machine newer, supported hardware. sad problem here support. quetion is, how things go if setup ubuntu 9.10 of support hardware , there setup virtual machine (or two) later versions? not interested in rebooting everytime need perform different task don't want go dual boot route. or return windows - now. think? it'll work, won't security or software updates host os. i've tried searching , haven't found answer. there way can set reader xi open .pdf file @ place @ when closed file? if i'm reading book , i'm 1 third of way through it, going page page interrupted inconvenient. might use word search if remember unusual word on page, if haven't returned book time might not remember specific word. calibre ebook reader automatically, , allows users set bookmarks @ various places might want revisit. thought reader had bookmark function this, can't find it. try edit>preferences>documents>open settings , check "restore last view settings when reopening documents." i starting use photoshop elements 12 organizer. not want import entire iphoto library however, how can import 1 or select group of events or albums? export photos iphoto desktop; import them organizer.   but if want avoid duplication on hard drive it's best use 1 file manager. choose either iphoto or organizer not both.   if of images in iphoto may wish set pse editor application external editor in iphoto preferences. can select thumbnails in iphoto , choose edit in pse. after checking out distros, decided kubuntu variant 1 me. i've had ubuntu 12.04 , linux mint 13 install alongside windows 7 installation (same disk, shrunk windows partition 100gb) without issue. downloaded 64-bit iso kubuntu.org, burned it, booted it, , low , behold, won't recognize have windows 7 os , install along side dual booting. make sure wasn't partition problem fired ubuntu 12.04 disk had made , had no issue, option install alongside windows 7 installation (which detected) there. @ point i'm wondering if have abandon kubuntu since seems doggedly determined thwart hopeful user. i'm not wiping out windows 7 install, still need it. i'm afraid partition empty space ext4 , swap , install kubuntu, because have feeling won't put grub on me since can't tell have existing os. can out there shed light on or perhaps provide solution? thanks. the standard installation ...
