this post has been color coded convenience. alright. i'm still having pains moving 12.04 10.04. importantly have had replace of long term software friends because have went on the dark side of integration , poor design. hasn't been big of problem, because pool of alternatives large, have come big snap nautilus , gedit. i'm using xfce , don't have problems using marlin (or similar) file manager. i'm still using nautilus render desktop. clump incoming files little piles on , xfdesktop not let me that. so, yeah, right running 2 file managers. i need render icons onto desktop let me slide them off edges bit , pile them up. nautilus used perfect this, now, preference favoring huge wide filenames on icons kind of mess. i don't nautilus devs thinking anymore. void space between icons , names taking real estate weird. if cared more filenames icons open terminal. why should continue use nautilus render desktop? doing me maki

hello dear ubuntuers. i'm trying make external webcam work ubuntu 12.04. actually camera belongs nephew turned, ubuntu see light and, me solve problems. used work fine (although nothing else did), after installing drivers, in windows. tried many different applications ( gstreamer-properties, cheese, xawtv, skype 4 ) , detect camera in code: /dev/video1 but the input in of them black / no input @ all. brand name of webcam (turbo-x) doesn't matter, same device branded under many different names (usually under name of shop sells it). code: lsusb shows camera recognized as: code: bus 002 device 004: id 0ac8:0323 z-star microelectronics corp. luxya wc-1200 usb 2.0 webcam i found webcam uses gspca driver lately became kernel module. code: lsmod | grep gspca gives me: code: gspca_vc032x 31999 0 gspca_main 27654 1 gspca_vc032x videodev 86588 2 gspca_main,uvcvideo after goog

when first downloaded after effect creative cloud file broken.now can't re-download creative cloud , when try reach page of adobe says sorry, seems thats there problem, try again later ! the icon nautilus on ubuntu 12.04 system software center version of gnome installed has such awful icon i'm embarrassed have on desktop. it's fuzzy, lumpy, looks "cut out". how fix - substitute icon, replace icon on system, or ??? , how accomplish whatever recommended... thanks! ok, figured out. 1) open properties desktop icon 2) search in google nautilus icon 3) copy , drop gimp 4) save .png 5) select existing trashed icon on properties window, , shout "geminio" in best harry potter voice. 6) go saved icon, select it, , click "open" 7) admire replaced icon, should have been in first place.
