Thread: Bootloader install failed

i'm dualbooting xubuntu 12.04 lts alongside windows 7 on sony vaio vgn-nw15g. when got end of installation, got error message saying "bootloader install failed" , asking me if wanted install bootloader in different location, giving me options sda1, sda2 , sda5 (i not expert means , have no idea these mean). none of these worked options had install without bootloader or abort installation.

chose install without bootloader, , have no idea how install manually. can boot windows 7 can't boot xubuntu. please me out? , please keep simple , clear possible - i've read answers other people who've had same problem , frankly didn't understand thing.

use ubuntu livecd , download app. instructions on link. may fix issue, may better run bootinfo , post link creates.

boot repair -also handles lvm, gpt, separate /boot , uefi dual boot.:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/boot-repair
can repair many boot issues or 'create bootinfo' report (other options) & post link creates, can see exact configuration.

can download bootable livecd.
