Thread: unable to resolve host ubuntu on login


so somehow i've borked ubuntu 12.04 (64 bit) system. think somehow uninstalled wrong package last time logged in, , somehow ubuntu-desktop/unity got messed up.

booted 11.10 64bit usb livecd, has internet access. i'm trying apt-get update while chrooted hard disk install while chrooted can't seem see internet connection hundred of errors of type
something wicked happened resolving 'gb.archive.ubuntu.com:http' (-5 - no address associated hostname)

as part of steps set live cd chroot in lucid use command
code:
sudo mount -o bind /etc/resolv.conf /mnt/etc/resolv.conf
part of process should address problem.

full process used in lucid may you, i've attached text file of proceedure below, has 2 options, full step step process or compressed 1 line of code mount chroot , 1 action , 1 line of code pasted unmount chroot.
