Thread: Replacing Windows 2000 server with ubuntu server steps?

hi guys,

our windows 2000 server provides active directory, dns , dhcp services small office network.

there ubuntu server 10.04 provides samba, proxy (squid) , firewall (shorewall) whole network.

windows 2000 server has being giving lot of problems regarding performance , service availability (it fails every day) want move of services windows box provides ubuntu box (which runs atm )

have succesfully setup dhcp server on ubuntu machine (i set authoritative), although haven't deactivated dhcp server on win 2000 machine.

how should proceed other services? active directory guess might give me problems think samba has covered right? need change domain controller ubuntu machine primary domain controller.

best create new domain on ubuntu machine , join machines new domain? or can leave same domain name , "transfer" pdc ubuntu machine?

, dns? can there problems migration?

lot input!!!!

well don't think ubuntu ideal dc. samba has poor performance compared windows. why not upgrade server 2008r2? there no ad in ubuntu. install bind dns.

if want use ubuntu server, need thoroughly test network in test environment , make sure works. software apps run under linux?
