Thread: Applications installations


hello.

interested in application gets installed. in other words, after "apt-get install some_app", apt-get put "some_app"? in folder structure, go?

question comes me following problem. wanted install blender. but, though did "apt-get update", "apt-get install blender" brings me old version 2.49. went blender's webpage, downloaded newest version (2.63), unpacked in downloads folder , able run terminal typing "blender". ok, want in ubuntu's application menu.

need do, put downloaded folder or whatever, version 2.63 installed , in application menu?

most executables go in /usr/bin or /usr/local/bin , configuration file(s) go in /etc. in accordance guidelines layout.

if still have .deb file cached in /var/cache/apt/archives/ can use dpkg -c list files in package. or can online in packages database. that, too, list files in package.

hi, if developing platform independent software in linux using gtk+/gtkmm , you've managed cross compile windows, guide you. i'm posting because after researching topic myself, encountered many posts people have abandoned gtk+/gtkmm wxwidgets because of gtks ugly default appearance in windows/wine. gtk+ themeable in windows/wine gnome. have set correctly . . . here's how. guide gtkmm gtk+ similar. (1) firstly, download , install gtkmm windows using wine. Thread: Twinview issues

hi all, recovered white screen of death having reinstalling nvidia drivers via command line in recovery mode. when rebooted after that, fine, except 1 of monitors not displaying anything. ran sudo nvidia xconfig, created conf file me, issue not resolved. in x server settings, secondary monitor (the 1 not displaying), detected , enabled in twinview, resolution not detected , screen black. if try switching workspaces, little window showing workspaces show second monitor sitting next monitor, same in x server settings. options have resolving this? lot!
