Thread: Unity side-launcher: specific case for relocation

dear peeps,

i've found threads talk unity side launcher not being relocatable. are, however, closed.

in cases, launcher on side fine. don't agree idea 1 should "just live it" on side, me without complaint part. however, wanted describe particular case side-launcher in 12.04 doesn't work me. plea more customizability function, not form.

have old thinkpad x41 tablet pc. use exclusively notes , scratch wacom enabled screen. can't use windows , keep sanity, naturally have ubuntu on there, worry free gnu/linux experience.

screen rotated profile mode way write on normal piece of paper, unity launcher squeezes available space down width unreasonably small (i have launcher icons set smallest size, resolution on screen isn't high). starting in 12.04, if have launcher auto-hide, can't pop pen, since it's absolute position pointer, not relative. hence highest sensitivity, launcher not pop unless bail on tablet mode opening up, turning screen around, , using trackpoint.

if move launcher bottom, aggravating problem of mine disappear. other alternative reverting launcher un-hide ability relative pointer can open it. latter not desirable former.

low level of customization in unity should addressed. i'm not saying can overnight thing, plans improving make easier me deal shortcomings now. may switch xfce, unity in general reluctant.

not consolation, agree.

think understand why customisation limited. designing new desktop environment isn't trivial task, , presumably, beginning less customisable environment has fewer variables (and less potential bugs). it's more manageable task start with.

however, if canonical going implement one more bit of user configuration in short term, ability move launcher bottom of screen feels popular one?
