Thread: Too many files in folder

hey there all. have folder 165,000 largish images, , sadly nautilus , other app try use gets hung trying catalog of contents can't select 1 or several editing or batch editing. named sequentially, 000001.jpg, 000002.jpg, etc.

question is, how cut , paste separate folder manageable numbers of them command line? let's suppose in /home/ricardisimo/pictures/jpeg right now. in advance.

i sure possible automate solution should not take long anyway.

open terminal session: ctrl-alt-t
go folder images are: cd /home/ricardisimo/pictures/jpeg
create subfolder 00: mkdir 00
repeat command 16 times 01, 02, ..., 16
move files first folder: mv 00*.jpg 00/
repeat 16 times: mv 01*.jpg 01/ ... mv 16*.jpg 16/

now, have 17 folders maximum 10,000 files in each.
