Request count drops to nothing

i've been having problem our server , i've never seen before.  i'm hoping in community might able give me guidance...

 

we run coldfusion 10 standard server (recently patched update 12), handles 30 requests per second on average.

 

lately, we've been experiencing odd performance issues, i've been leaving fusionreactor open on screen pretty day long.  , i've noticed bizarre.

 

periodically, metrics graphs show drop-off in requests usual 20-40 0.  last 5 seconds, , when requests come back, shoot right max (our server set max @ 100).  it's if blocking requests getting through few seconds, , flooded @ once.  either that, or fusionreactor isn't recording traffic.  @ 1 point morning happening every minute or so, such our server choking on requests , forced reboot whole machine.

 

has experienced before?  or might able point me in direction?

smurf, first, wondering whether can trust fr reporting, note can “check on it” using 2 new features in cf10: can @ either metrics.log (enabled in cf admin debug output settings page), tracks every 5 seconds things how many requests running, , can in request log (in \[instance]\runtime\logs), logs every request runs in cf.

 

second, let me ahead of may tempted “it sounds you’re experiencing gc pauses”. if issue, not explain no requests running (at point in time). instead, gc pause make running requests take little longer complete.

 

third, conclusion, agree seems “something blocking requests getting through few seconds”, , first suspicion web server connector. fronting cf10 iis or apache? in either case, had updated web server connector since applying various cf10 updates? technote update tells to, many miss it. if don’t update connector, have seeming performance/reliability problems “in cf” “in connector”. discuss issue , process of updating connector in blog entry:

finally, i’ll note since had doubts whether fr might @ issue here, i’ll propose in interest raise such questions in fr mailing list groups.google.com/group/fusionreactor/, intergral engineers active users myself enjoy helping solve problems, in case may not fr that’s issue.

 

but 1 never knows, i’m not saying these above answer, may be. let know find.
