Thread: Ubuntu Server, unable to add PCI ethernet card.

hello all!

trying add ethernet card older dell i'm using file server.

have trendnet teg-pcitxr, can't find documentation , nothing since kernel 3.x

suggestions?

i had similar problem, >= linux 3.2 not recognizing pseudo, southbridge-driven, onboard lan device on computer.

intermediate fix uninstall network-manager, , install wicd.

long-term fix, install nic linux 3.2 / 3.3 / 3.4 / 3.5 supported... in case, installed netgear pci ethernet card real dec "tulip" chipset, e.g. none of cheapskate, pseudo device nonsense.

network-manager has worked fine, ever since!

suspect removed support many older lan devices, in recent linux kernels.

would:
  • run wicd instead of network-manager, and/or
  • switch different lan card

both methods worked me.
