Thread: Lenovo W530 bad battry life.

i bought laptop school going off university in next couple of days. removed windows , put ubuntu 12.04 on in it's place. i've heard linux having battery issues laptops before have heard 12.04 solved lot of issues. minimal screen brightness still has 2 hours of battery life after full charge. there programs or config files change extend life 6 hours? or there distros laptop friendly?

hi musdem,
don't have laptop yet , not using ubuntu linuxmint lmde instead using lenovo laptops since 3 years on linux , have big requirements battery life...
far can , suggest not use optimus nvidia graphics card , use rather intel integrated , may save lot of power if many gpus of nvidia card off!!!
laptop can recommand install through synaptic apt-get or other front end laptop-mode tool, may bring easy save power regarding:
- cpu saving mode
- ethernet
- usb
- disk power management (you don't have ssd version isn't ?)
- brightness settings

use tool x201 , battery life went 3hours 7 hours after tuning configuration of tools...
dealing w530 should defintely switch off optimus card , guess other new cards it's not managed correctly linux stuff...

hope helps
jerome
