singing praises of moc terminal music player

while have been using terminal music players sox nvlc , mplayer; knocked little how to

extremely grateful sysaxed having introduced me moc

seems no longer maintained has going it

thought share here many have never heard of it
...

navigation [all details h key] possibly better on nvlc [ go visible hidden folder no trouble]
drawback have found far nor seem handle cuefiles
& fast forward , rewind on long files slow [compared nvlc] .... correction ... until realized keys "[" , "]" silently zip through 4-hour recording in seconds

◄ first suggest install gnome-open-terminal

code:
sudo apt-get-install gnome-open-terminal

go music folder right-click , pick open in terminal

◄ install

code:
sudo apt-get install moc moc-ffmpeg-plugin

◄ play
code:
mocp

, there key h navigation tools

default theme might not taste; can changed

code:
shift +t
give choices

make them stick read here

create new file in /home/yourusername/.moc called "config"
now add line config file(for example):
code:

theme = /usr/share/moc/themes/darkdot_theme
this firms theme change

code:
sudo chmod 755 /home/yourusername/.moc/config

ps
if use ccsm set
mocp -g
pause , play hotkey
ctrl+g
key binding

ps 2 if have not yet try nvlc/sox/mplayer all info

ps 3 sampleconfig sample 1 sample 2

moc player of choice. first thing copy example moc config file home directory:

code:
mkdir ~/.moc cp -n /usr/share/doc/moc/config.example ~/.moc/config
it has bunch of commented out examples , explains various settings. next thing change ugly default theme less ugly changing theme in config (as you've mentioned).

can set main music directory (or playlist) in moc config file (with musicdir). moc start in directory, , using "m" key return music directory if navigate away it. if want more 1 hot-keyed directory set fastdir1, fastdir2, etc., in config.

i'll use play music on computer through sshfs:
code:
mkdir remotemusic sshfs username@192.168.1.168:music remotemusic mocp
then navigate 'remotemusic' in mocp.

problem crashes randomly on graybeard of hand-me-down laptop, tend use ffplay on machine instead.
