i run machine hardware wise should speed demon (ssd, 2.8ghz hexacore, 16gb ram) broadband should plenty fast (50-60mbs). 1 piece out of place video card -- 5 years old nvidia 8500 gt.

since don't play games in theory video card should plenty (encode video, photo editing, virtual machines, write software, serve media). in practice, gedit grays out on me! , card stutters on minimizing , maximizing apps.

want upgrade card, find video card world crazy compared 5 years ago! plain , simple can recommend video card $50-$100, passive cooling (or silent), runs unity3d well?

seems in range nvidia fermi , radeon 54xx chips between 0.5-3gb ram.
