How to convert existing FM to DITA 1.2? Any documentation?

i watched webinar posted on adobe website called "how optimize content smooth migration xml/dita" and in conversion, showed element called dita (root) , elements called topic before main content. took class in dita authoring last month , learned elements such reference , refbody , concept , conbody. class took did not go how use dita in framemaker need figure out now.

i'm using fm 10. have conversion table working pretty well, however, understand need import edd , template files convert.

my questions are:

what template , edd file use? there many of them in adobe\adobeframemaker10\structure\xml\dita_1.2\app folder. in dita folder there folders concept, , reference , task correct. however, in dita_1.2 folder have no idea start.

is there documentation dita_1.2 framemaker 10? or books or or new using dita in framemaker. looked @ fm 10 dita, not cover when converting existing documents, creating new topics.

thank information can provide.

hello,

hoepfully, understand questions correctly. once converted dita (regardless of version), each file have doctype. root element in file. example:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

<!doctype task public "-//oasis//dtd dita task//en" "technicalcontent/dtd/task.dtd"

in file, doctype <task>. after doctype have public identifier followed dtd. framemaker uses info determine template open file in, dtd parse against, , read/write rules file use.

unlike dita 1.1, uses 1 edd , template, dita 1.2 uses multiple template , edds. if open application definition file selecting structuretool > edit application definitions, can find template, dtd, , r/w rules filesthat associated each doctype. example:

$structdir\xml\dita_1.2\app\technicalcontent\dtd\task.dtd

this says, dtd doctype <task> is, default, here:

c:\program files (x86)\adobe\adobeframemaker10\structure\xml\dita_1.2\app\technicalcontent\dtd\task.dtd

as template, here

$structdir\xml\dita_1.2\app\technicalcontent\template\task.template.fm

c:\program files (x86)\adobe\adobeframemaker11\structure\xml\dita_1.2\app\technicalcontent\template\task.t emplate.fm

you want structured application developers guide. not sure there 1 fm10, 1 fm9 work.

http://help.adobe.com/en_us/framemaker/9.0/structureddev/structure_dev_guide.pdf

it's not quick , easy learning process developing , edd. out-of-the-box edd have lot of formatting covered. says in edd not covered. example, think has 2 levels of bullet <ul> , numbered lists <ol> covered.

as mentioned fm uses multible edds. each top-level edd uses several levels of nested edds (text insets). set in same way dtds. makes editing edds time-consuming process.

hope helps,

stan
