Thread: 12.04 upgrade-can only log in as 2d


on dual boot pc upgraded 12.04 few days ago, previous version. have upgraded 1 version @ time. upgrade went fine, did not unity, followed advice a webiste (forgotten) remove unity , revert gnome (?). since time when log in start-up, if don't select wallpaper, nothing else. can log in if select 2d option. 3d , normal start-up. assume original upgrade 3d, because 1: log in normally, , 2: able use myunity icons on left disappear, when open myunity says many options won't work because running in 2d, cannot that.

although have been using various versions of ubuntu more 2 years pretty newb, if have advice please assume need step-by-step instructions. in advance can help!

with out knowing modifications made difficult provide step step instructions. try following terminal.

sudo apt-get update
checks updates
code:
sudo apt-get upgrade
installs updates
code:
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
install missing components . restart
