Thread: How to prepare linux computer for donation?


hi all,

interested in donating of computers.
suggest in preparation?

in particular
- best way wipe hdd contents?
- best donate without linux on, or should fresh install?
- if better install linux before donating, types of users should create? convention? thinking "administrator" or sudoer. vendors when selling new computer linux on?

suggestion highly appreciated.

-give inside (gentle!) clean-out. don't want getting hot new owner through dust.

-i suggest using darik's boot , nuke (dban) hdd wiping. obviously, backup data first.

-yup, suggest installing linux. make sure choose 1 runs relatively fast , it's up-to-date, otherwise user may become frustrated.

-i don't know users, system76 believe comes ubuntu pre-installed, without configuration, @ first boot asks stuff in install (where are, username, password, etc.). if can find out how that, good.

-i suggest getting flash , dvds working.

kudos donating, rather throwing away.
