Thread: Restoring Hosts file (usr/share/vlc/lua/http)


i've been trying stream video ubuntu machine nexus 7 using vlc hd remote. following instructions setup, tried edit hosts file here:

usr/share/vlc/lua/http

problem edit it, every time tried save it, got told didn't have permissions. went looking solution , found terminal command:

gksu gedit /usr/share/vlc/lua/http/.hosts

however, after editing file (uncommenting 2 lines) , saving, have odd situation. folder list shows 2 files: 1 .hosts file, "zero bytes, link plain text document", , file .hosts(tilde), "289 bytes, backup file". can't open latter.

not sure i've done or how restore file (what hope is) backup file.

helpful suggestions?

Thread: Twinview issues

hi all, recovered white screen of death having reinstalling nvidia drivers via command line in recovery mode. when rebooted after that, fine, except 1 of monitors not displaying anything. ran sudo nvidia xconfig, created conf file me, issue not resolved. in x server settings, secondary monitor (the 1 not displaying), detected , enabled in twinview, resolution not detected , screen black. if try switching workspaces, little window showing workspaces show second monitor sitting next monitor, same in x server settings. options have resolving this? lot!
