Thread: Authentication failure 10.04

i upgrading software on mother's laptop remotely (over ssh) , misunderstood me , turned off during process. cannot enter system. after entering password in gdm login screen she's got

code:

authentication failure

she able log in in console , finished upgrade still cannot pass gdm login screen.

cannot connect laptop anymore needs start vpn enter external network (it's how provider sets external ips). hoping use nmcli start vpn not present in 10.04.

anyway, know solution or @ least how start vpn console in 10.04 can try things have dictate commands mother extremely tedious , time consuming.

tried few things yesterday mother on phone driving mad silly commands no avail.

gnome greeter gives following:

i tried stop gdm , reinstall ubuntu-desktop.

also tried newer version of network-manager able connect laptop , relieve mother typing things she's got no idea about. managed add ppa newer version , start update ran problem of needing answer questions think failed not see (some eula or something) , result version of nm remained 0.80 without nmcli. after decided call day. or have checked disk space looks (or sounds not see myself)there no space shortage on /.

anyway, if can suggest great cannot think of else.
