Thread: robust, non-raid/lvm/jbod method to load share multiple hard drives?

afternoon all,

i'm wondering if point me towards method automatically load share files across multiple hard drives? i'm aware set raid, jbod or lvm accomplish unless went mirrored raid, single drive failure mean end of data. know not absolute end of files if happens not simple task recover them.

i'd prefer able keep file systems on single drives avoid these issues not have hassle of managing storage locations when 1 drive gets full. guess write script move files temporary folder , write particular drive based on free space available , call @ 3am or nice if there method linux in real time.

these drives contain media files performance isn't paramount means , they're not critical vulnerability data loss doesn't bother me. when playing files, xbmc can merge multiple locations single playlist take care of reading multiple places.

i'm using 2tb drives getting larger 1 isn't solution i'm after , largest 1 can realistically @ moment 3tb anyway. i'm running lvm 2x 2tb drives, think little more safe raid or jbod more read them, less believe true!

thoughts or existing solutions cares share!? apologies if in wrong section, seemed general question me!

thanks.
david
