Thread: First linux install.


im planning dual boot ubuntu , windows 7.

have 3 internal hard drives, 1 windows, 1 games , 1 downloads , such.

dont have enough space on c drive install ubuntu on same drive windows planning install on hard drive games on (g: games).

these questions me on way:
1. "install alongside windows" option mean install on c drive? or simple option thing installed , dual booting?
2. choosing "something else" option asked define root file system, of options should choose here?
3. games drive /devsdb, choose boot loader installation?

these silly questions want sure of im doing before go ahead in case end having reinstall windows.

careful, since have windows on same mashcine , maybe data want keep.

in dual boot it's backup...

1. it's simple option install alongside windows. it's easy use if create empty disk parititon (non formated space)
2. root / --- kind of c:\ drive in windows. it' sytsem installed , files. can chose cretae separate partition /home (which kind of liek documents). if go manual need create small partition swap (at least size of ram or bit larger). partition /swap , page file in windows.
3. believe grub boot loader goes sda. not sure here since let automated process handle install.

sdb second hard disk, sda first disk...

/sdb1 first partition in second disk
/sdb2 second partition in second disk , on...


note unless use wubi data on partition install os deleted.

additionally it's boot live system first (try option) see if works on maschine.

Thread: Twinview issues

hi all, recovered white screen of death having reinstalling nvidia drivers via command line in recovery mode. when rebooted after that, fine, except 1 of monitors not displaying anything. ran sudo nvidia xconfig, created conf file me, issue not resolved. in x server settings, secondary monitor (the 1 not displaying), detected , enabled in twinview, resolution not detected , screen black. if try switching workspaces, little window showing workspaces show second monitor sitting next monitor, same in x server settings. options have resolving this? lot!
