Thread: AMD video drivers


what best driver use gaming , general use? have used driver amd's site , 1 comes "restricted drivers" i'm not sure works best. using 12.04.

the driver install precise repo amd/ati 12.4 catalyst driver.

amd/ati website, 12.6 (or perhaps 12.7 now) driver. there may minor improvements.

however, installing driver amd/ati website requires reinstall every time kernel updated when normal ubuntu updates.

reason, recommend newer users install repo.

fglrx-updates (post release updates) version has been troublesome many users, recommend against 1 time being.

also, using graphical "additional drivers" method may troublesome.

if "additional drivers" method fails, please refer ati driver wiki in signature. in table of contents, select "using ubuntu repositories (alternate command line method, including hardware acceleration)" , follow instructions.

hi, if developing platform independent software in linux using gtk+/gtkmm , you've managed cross compile windows, guide you. i'm posting because after researching topic myself, encountered many posts people have abandoned gtk+/gtkmm wxwidgets because of gtks ugly default appearance in windows/wine. gtk+ themeable in windows/wine gnome. have set correctly . . . here's how. guide gtkmm gtk+ similar. (1) firstly, download , install gtkmm windows using wine. Thread: Twinview issues

hi all, recovered white screen of death having reinstalling nvidia drivers via command line in recovery mode. when rebooted after that, fine, except 1 of monitors not displaying anything. ran sudo nvidia xconfig, created conf file me, issue not resolved. in x server settings, secondary monitor (the 1 not displaying), detected , enabled in twinview, resolution not detected , screen black. if try switching workspaces, little window showing workspaces show second monitor sitting next monitor, same in x server settings. options have resolving this? lot!
