Thread: symbolic link and dropbox

hello ubuntu forums,

office machine runs win7, laptop runs ubuntu 12.04. dropbox syncs personal files in both. files organized in many folders , sub-folders.

in linux, created symbolic link 1 folder (both in dropbox-synced part of drive). expecting show rubbish in office machine (a broken link). that, @ least, remember happening few years ago.

surprise, link functional in win7 machine. know if symbolic links operational across systems? or did dropbox duplicate directory in office hdd?

from application's point of view (how dropbox 'sees' it), it's folder , contents being synced. if create symbolic link in linux, dropbox 'thinks' folder , syncs cloud.

then, when you're in windows 7, folder in cloud synced windows machine. windows' dropbox app cannot 'know' happened on linux machine, if it's folder or symbolic link. application's view, it's folder content in cloud.
