SG and PPro : File format, colour depth and clamping issues

hi all,

i've converstion on in ppro well, not sure best place.

scenario testing workflows working ppro & sg. want maintain high colour depth footage in ppro can graded , finished in sg using dynamic link.

issue limited options kind of footage can brought ppro , sent sg.

example,

i have cineon sequence in ppro (log 10bit), if add cineon convertor can linearise footage believe 32 bit float environment in ppro. take speedgrade, appears doing not able pull down highlights - somewhere along line highlights became clipped. if have same cineon sequence without cineon conversion ext clip can see source log data shows me highlight data.

is possible linearise log files within speedgrade? link ppro offers limited options interpretting source footage.

secondly there 10bit codec holding log based files on windows? prores non starter, dnxhd 1080p (i need 2k) , cineform isn't working other apps. there option?

thanks

paul

replying self, first sign of madness?

right, have 2 different results direct vs link project in sg.

i have cineon log encoded movie, if import in ppro , direct link sg can add lut linearise lut clip high range. can add lut @ top of layer list , grade below i'm grading in log , that's not idea.

direct in sg same clip means have access timeline , clip tabs. on timeline have option calibration , can pop lut there , linearised, pulling down highlights right thing. odd thing calibration scopes not reflect transform. there's clip tab , can override input transform , voila, there's log linear, scopes update , want be....

so, why can not access input format via ppro? without grading compromised?

this crux of workflow see?

thanks

paul
