"this error message means cyclic redudancy check failed during operation, while gzip'ing or un-gzip'ing file. possible causes of error include incomplete gzip operation, , hardware failure. brute-force way recover error remove rdiff-backup-data directory. however, remove of past increments. better approach may delete particular file causing problem. command like: $ find rdiff-backup-data -type f -name \*.gz -print0 | xargs -0r gzip --test find failing file. more information on approach, see mailing list post: http://lists.nongnu.org/archive/html/rdiff-backup-users/2007-11/msg00008.html."

try out.
hope helps
