Thread: cannot install 12.04/cannot delete 9.10

hello,i brand new forum (and forum matter). true believer in linux/ubuntu. regardless of difficulties having ubuntu, have no complaints whatsoever. tried resolve problem myself, after 72 hours of trying think should ask out there more experience. here goes:

#1. laptop: hp pavilion g6 series
#2. original os: windows 7
#3. network controller (internal): ralink 5390 (driver: rt2x00)
#4. wireless card (usb:netgear wnda3100v2(driver: ar9170)**

** did not use wireless card windows, got use ubuntu since understood site driver compatible.

needless say, running fine windows before installed karmic livecd. let me mention made mistake during first installation. namely, selected partitioning without understanding numbers meant. did because other option given erase windows , fill hardrive karmic. dual boot or divided system choice not given. in case, there ability select through grub window os open with. however, imagine, upon selection no longer access windows. so, decided reinstall karmic time. , on occasion choice divide between 2 os' still not given/shown. in short, went way. now, have karmic on hardrive. (i believe). but:

problem: 1) receive no more wifi signals karmic. indicator on f12 key stays red, opposed blue. (ergo, bought #4 above). found out #3 above not supported ubuntu.

problem: 2) have no hardline/ethernet connection.
(i.e., no wire connection internet)

try resolve issue: first, following forum tips read, downloaded (from different computer) firmware #4 , copied them hp. second, downloaded drivers #4 , copied them hp. after having difficulty installing them, decided download 12.04 (64bit) on livecd. however, when put in cd, restart , go boot setup (choosing internal cd/dvd), don't screen select , use cd boot with. karmic starts again.

goal: uninstall/delete karmic or format hdd , install 12.04 livecd. whichever comes first. care less windows 7 lost: riddance.

now, willing takes solve issue. @ risk of becoming expert in linux/ubuntu programming. quite possible files copied not put in right places. but, tried figure out myself.

can me along path?

many thanks.

so, sum up, try start ubuntu 12.04 livecd computer doesn't start cd, correct?
1. did verify checksum of downloaded iso file?
2. how did create livecd? right in assuming not copied iso file cd?
3. helps burn cd @ lowest possible speed.
