Thread: Broken screen working in Ubuntu, not Windows

first off, apologise if posted in incorrect place. seems rather peculiar situation me, hope can enlighten me can find out more.

using emachines d620 laptop has until been running pre loaded windows vista. while ago screen bombed out , have since had attach seperate crt. not our supposed professionals @ local computer store fix it, screen didn't display @ bios option has been screen.

week ago decided install ubuntu 12.04 , surprise laptop screen starts working again! dusted off , proceeded installation. somewhere along line forced machine switch off while installation busy (i had reasons @ time, impatience).

after this, laptop booted windows, screen working whole time, during bios screen, during windows, everything!

anyway - later replaced windows ubuntu disappointed find new unity3d interface extremely slow , besides i'm running pc , not smartphone. not i'm here discuss. have installed windows xp , of course, laptop screen not working once again.

know have caused of this? on ubuntu disc fixed screen, know is? try , recreate did before @ risk of messing file system, if knows happened here forever thankful.

i think linux own hardware detection, not relying on bios tell there. maybe problem lies in bios, telling windows there no display. maybe there bios setting somewhere, or maybe there strange hardware fault misleading bios. don't know, i'm rambling.

if decide try linux again, worth looking @ xubuntu has more conventional pc style gui ubuntu. or people prefer linux mint, gather that's heavier on resources xubuntu.
