Thread: Can't get HD to format


hi,

glad making switch linux. i'm trying "ubuntu desktop" open suggestions type of linux.

i've had quite hard time getting install though , i'm still not quite there yet.

i'm using old p4 tower server install linux onto. problem is/was wants boot straight centos that's on installed hard drive. setting bios cd first boot device couldn't read cd (which has ubuntu desktop install program). have been fooling bios hours (no! ..... days!) , have seen 'ubuntu desktop' on monitor. i'm ready finished. ;=)

unplugged 2 hard drives , set boot usb. got ubuntu desktop onto monitor install hard drive next step. way, can boot cd rom now.

problem is. when plug in hard drives go right old problem of booting old server os (centos).

used windows pc , copy of puppy wipe 1 hard drive when boot ubuntu desktop 'wiped drive' installed , try "install" ubuntu desktop onto drive linux isn't seeing , error:
don't have "4.4gb available disk space" required space ubuntu desktop install.

can please me , tell me how can see 'wiped drive' ubuntu desktop running cd rom (or usb) , format or use installation?

i'm not familiar ubuntu desktop , don't know how make see drive.

i've been @ 3 nights , need expert guide me through this.

hi redham, i'm redbacon know of few linux distro's. if want simalr mac os x. called gos. 1 hasn't had new realse while latest 1 realeased in '07 pretty good. if old gnome shell try fedora 16. puppy linux, easy peasy netbooks. problem. not quite sure why having problem. try formmatting biggest partition. 1 in middle on list. ( is, if haven't tried customizing partitions.) after format try installing on partition.

[edit] if trying install external harddrive more difficult because need create partition. instructions can found somewhere on forums or on ubuntu install instructions.
