Thread: failing to upgrade to Precise from Lucid


greetings,

did search on "upgrade precise fail" , did not find thread seemed problem. please let me know if there one.

in trying upgrade lucid 10.4. precise 12.04.1 following error messages:


root@lynx:~# apt-get upgrade
reading package lists... error!
e: dynamic mmap ran out of room. please increase size of apt::cache-limit. current value: 25165824. (man 5 apt.conf)
e: error occurred while processing shorewall6-lite (newversion1)
e: problem mergelist /var/lib/apt/lists/us.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_precise_univers e_binary-i386_packages
w: unable munmap
e: package lists or status file not parsed or opened.
root@lynx:~#

don't know means -- cache-limit? and, if so, how increase it?

first, don't believe can go 10.04 12.04. think need upgrade 11.04 first. if still in 10.04, make sure backup data have because doing upgrade, , if things go wrong can loose data files.
advice fresh install of 12.04, first boot live dvd/usb , make sure hardware working 12.04. (like wifi, network, video, etc). if install it.
