Thread: Open Office 3.4 won't launch: 12.04

hi all,

title suggests. click oo component , nothing happens. can't launch office, writer, draw; nothing.

thinking java checked system requirements on oo site , tells me linux need 'glibc2 version 2.11.1 or higher', can't find anywhere install (and not installed).

fresh install of 12.04 lts (less 24 hours) , installed oo repository:

http://launchpad.net/upubuntu.com/office/ubuntu precise

ideas??? seemed install okay when issue:

code:
ooffice -writer
... still nothing. try:

code:
soffice -writer
ditto.

yea, weird stuff happening. checked synaptics , open office installed none of components or .base! hmm. installed ones use - writer, draw, impress - still same. when click them don't launch. nothing happens, nor terminal.

here's strange bit; have libreoffice base, draw, , writer in apps>office menu! did not install them, though did see them in synaptics (and made point install ones office suite). oo , libreo amalgamating??? same?

odd. 10.04 crashed , burned no reason detect. install 12.04 , have had nothing crash reports. getting there though , once sorted out of woods ... have thought of hardware win7 shows no signs.

ps: naturally, 'soffice -writer' launches libreoffice writer, 'ooffice -writer' still nothing.
