Live Paint doesn't work on Complicated Objects?

i have never figured out how build illustrator file in way fill other option (that know of) use live paint.  unfortinately live paint wrecks line weights.  makes object noneditable later down road.  found out hard way logo project @ college , spent on 30 hours on trying fiddle illustrator program, looking tutorials never seemed work me , nonstop frustration.

 

this time live paint doesn't work @ all. (i'm trying paint in more complicated object simple logo).  first off object has gaps in it, , when click "gap options" doesn't appear , there still gaps.  try fill them in myself wrecks line weights.  , live paint appears work on objects such eyes, nose, annd ears, yet refuses fill in entire body of animal i'm trying colour in.  drew animal in illustrator pen tool , applied line weights line weight tool.  yes there numerous gaps in image.

 

i have project due on more complicated illustrator file , can't figure out how colour in properly!  please help!  looks of now:

only imagine not in pdf illustrator file because yes have original , yes it's vector. 

 

also use adobe illustrator cs6

i looked @ drawing , have few suggestions:

 

as have no doubt learned, live paint strokes cannot contain stroke profiles or other effects @ individual stroke level. there 2 solutions:

 

1. set stroke on live paint object small width, add stroke attribute lp object using appearance panel. there, can assign global stroke effect paths on lp object have stroke applied.

 

2. assign no strokes lp object. instead, duplicate lp object, release live paint , assign stroke attributes duplicated lines. have found provides better control of stroke attributes, making them independent of live paint object.

 

i agree, "gap options" feature not work well. that's reason prefer handle lines , fills separately, can manually fill gaps extending lines using pencil or pen tool.
