Thread: Ubuntu Install Issue


hi guys,

i'm new forum , not familiar on rules etc. (i reading on these though).

problem following:

running dual boot of ubuntu 11.10 , windows 7. had windows 7 on , used ubuntu install shrink partition. worked fine , issue free.

replaced ubuntu backtrack wanted give go. had network issues tried resolve , removed package (can't remember which). after point, when boot laptop, screen split 2 displays , os can windows 7 (display remains split). split display flickers blue colours etc.

understand either graphics card (geforce 8400m) fried or package removed broke (hopefully latter). want go ubuntu (and have disc 11.10 , no internet access download 12.04 disc) hoping complete format , reinstall of os (exclusively ubuntu only) fix issue.

problem comes in cannot boot installation via disc. far option menu can select install or run live. when select install, split screens remain black whole bunch of weird symbols flashing on , off on screen , doesn't go anywhere there.

question is: there way can run install in 'safe-mode' kinda way work around issue? hope problem stems 'i broke grub boot loader' (or whatever you'd refer as).

severe noob when comes linux apologise unsure of how provide more scientific information explain problem. above best can do!

hi, if developing platform independent software in linux using gtk+/gtkmm , you've managed cross compile windows, guide you. i'm posting because after researching topic myself, encountered many posts people have abandoned gtk+/gtkmm wxwidgets because of gtks ugly default appearance in windows/wine. gtk+ themeable in windows/wine gnome. have set correctly . . . here's how. guide gtkmm gtk+ similar. (1) firstly, download , install gtkmm windows using wine. Thread: Twinview issues

hi all, recovered white screen of death having reinstalling nvidia drivers via command line in recovery mode. when rebooted after that, fine, except 1 of monitors not displaying anything. ran sudo nvidia xconfig, created conf file me, issue not resolved. in x server settings, secondary monitor (the 1 not displaying), detected , enabled in twinview, resolution not detected , screen black. if try switching workspaces, little window showing workspaces show second monitor sitting next monitor, same in x server settings. options have resolving this? lot!
