Thread: Newbie needs help with installation on dual-boot Mac - fails at boot

i'm trying install 12.04 onto macbook dual-boot system (with lion) , have followed instructions @ https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ma...elinstallation. adjusting newer installer, goes instructed, system freezes on booting ubuntu, giving either gray penguin screen or text error.

problem has been reported other people , usual advice reinstall grub, there lot of differing instructions how floating around on board , others. many not work @ (e.g. running 'grub' 'find' command) , presumably out of date. others apply single-boot system bootloader goes in mbr, rather dual-boot system want install linux partition. 'grub-install /dev/sda5' gives error message /dev should mounted, though /dev *is* mounted.

i having problem. im dual booting on macbook pro , decided upgrade mountain lion. after upgrade tried booting 12.04 , message telling me filesystem unknown , grub rescue. through searching found out issue grub have not found working solution either repair on dual boot mac.
