Thread: vim/gvim teething issues

i trying make change long-time gedit user vim, er gvim , having teething problems hope that.

2 of great things gedit find indispensable snippets , ext tools plugins. discovered ultisnips plugin vim , ok, far ideal. can't seem enter snippets without preceding them space first, though previous character <> bracket. there snippet managers available work more gedit's, allow snippet tab forward after > bracket?

gedit's ext tools great entering little bash scripts, cannot seem figure out how similar vim. need port of gedit ext tool scripts individual bash scripts , run them ~/bin dir? because have many remember , menu in gedit listing of scripts has seemed rather convenient. plus, running scripts within gedits ext tool menu, script acts on current file without need bother specifying paths.

said hope of issues teething probs. edit lot of text using sed terminal , somehow :%s option in vim seems less adequate. can't seem figure how invoke -r option regex. possible. comfortable, perhaps more if open terminal in current dir of file editing , run sed/perl scripts way. in gedit have remapped c-t (ctrl+t) open terminal in current directory of current file. there way using gvim?

seem biggest caveats atm. enjoying noticeable performance efficiency of gvim on gedit, own editting efficiency taking serious nose dive atm; if few of these issues resolved think might on track using gvim.

oh yeah, 1 other thing. got tabs sort of working in gvim...but, reason, if open new nautilus/thunar session open new file opens in new gvim window , not open in new tab of existing gvim window. ideas on great also. love tabs!

forgot ask vim's clipboard. seem getting confused buffers. vim have clipboard stores multiple copy/yanks , cuts? use parcellite precisely because keep long buffer of copy/cut stuff tend need later on. everytime try find info on functionality in vim seem pointed buffers, seem alternate simultaneously being managed vim.

help/suggs appreciated.
cheers,
tt
