hey gang... debian stable great on old g4 flowerpot imac, run issues when having install newer programs--you know, of "unmet dependencies" variety--and, such, live in constant almost-broken-system world. basically, i'd give quantal test-drive on old machine, since it's great on asus netbook. now, here catches: there's no way make boot usb mac, i've tried. million times. well, maybe not literally 1 million, catch drift. also, disc reader in shot, so... can alter sources.list reflect ubuntu , dist-upgrade? after reading, found many sites answering question "no" , suggesting hard disk install. read on , decided way go. official ubuntu installation documentation had me put files on hfs+ partition , install through openfirmware. did that, rebooted of, , ran associated commands; received dreaded "can't read elf e_ident/e_type/e_machine info" error, supposedly solved after hoary. no sweat, thought, i'll reboot debi...
