Thread: apt-get unable to locate package


i trying install packages using apt-get, however, consistently getting error reading unable locate package.

has else experienced similar problem? possible packages not searchable or apt-get querying server , not finding appropriate information?

asking because have tried following commands , unsuccessful, whilst internet connection exists:

installing kde
sudo apt-get install kde-full
sudo apt-get install kde-standard

installing nmap
sudo apt-get install nmap

installing java development kit 1.7 (jdk 1.7)
sudo apt-get openjdk-7-jdk

installing yum
sudo apt-get install yum

on virtual machine within same network (with connection internet), version of ubuntu running , tried install wine, according instructions @ http://www.winehq.org/download/ubuntu:

sudo apt-get install wine1.5

following error displayed:
package 'wine1.5' has no installation candidate.

updated , upgraded apt-get running following command, even, though during installation wizard security updates selected automatically updated:

sudo apt-get install update
sudo apt-get upgrade

process takes while.
