Thread: Boot Failure After NVIDIA Proprietary Driver Install


i made mistake of installing proprietary nvidia driver downloaded website. blank purple screen , can't load grub. able boot live cd though. suggestions on how remove driver and/or access grub? i've tried holding shift grub, still purple screen. tried deleting /etc/x11/xorg.conf after mounting main drive.

the shift feature should display grub menu. can repeatedly press esc button during boot when shift feature isn't enabled. there 3 second window try pressing , see if can grub menu.

once there, press 'e' edit ubuntu entry. cursor end of 'linux' line , remove after "ro". add "nomodeset" (no quotes) , press f10 or ctrl-x boot.

should take desktop, since have removed x11 file don't know if it's going work or not. if does, can add/remove additional drivers system working.

Thread: Twinview issues

hi all, recovered white screen of death having reinstalling nvidia drivers via command line in recovery mode. when rebooted after that, fine, except 1 of monitors not displaying anything. ran sudo nvidia xconfig, created conf file me, issue not resolved. in x server settings, secondary monitor (the 1 not displaying), detected , enabled in twinview, resolution not detected , screen black. if try switching workspaces, little window showing workspaces show second monitor sitting next monitor, same in x server settings. options have resolving this? lot!
