Thread: Ubuntu Server PDC & Mythtv in one Box


can have ubuntu server pdc & mythtv (backend & frontend) in 1 box

have 2 separate pc's this, able combine them both in 1 computer.

mythtv install , data on ubuntu server, , still able access data off file server on same pc.

mythtv box

amd quad core 3.2ghz
2 gb ram
2 tb drive (about 50% full) (i used dd clone drive , gparted resize new drive)
haupauge hvr-2250 tv card
dvd rom
2 3200 rpm case fans keep temps down

ubuntu 12.04 server box

amd 3200+ cpu
4 gb ram
2 x 2tb drives (raid 1 via madm)
samba pdc
cdr & dvd rom drives

use existing mythbox , 2 tb drives in raid 5 (plus few more 2tb drives) ubuntu server , mladm. install xserver giu,a, isntall mythtv & samba.

problem this, if 2tb drive fails other notification, not think know ever know 1 failed.

looked @ drobo box, have convenient lights when 1 fails. there similar, or can install in case 3 bay data hot swap enclosres fit 2 5.25" drive bays?

got ideas?

you can monitor smart data, smart tends worthless.

can monitor software raid. tell device/partition isn't available. there many different ways this. cat /proc/mdstat easy way. can write script runs every few minutes looking pattern ... perhaps "[4/4] [uuuu]"?

logwatch tell big things every day if like.

monitoring , alarming way of life when run servers.

can't see reason why running 2 major functions won't work on single box. whether idea or not different question can answer specific situation.

looking piece of hardware green/red lights? don't think exists software raid setups. getting lights why hardware raid devices cost $20k.

hi, if developing platform independent software in linux using gtk+/gtkmm , you've managed cross compile windows, guide you. i'm posting because after researching topic myself, encountered many posts people have abandoned gtk+/gtkmm wxwidgets because of gtks ugly default appearance in windows/wine. gtk+ themeable in windows/wine gnome. have set correctly . . . here's how. guide gtkmm gtk+ similar. (1) firstly, download , install gtkmm windows using wine. Thread: Twinview issues

hi all, recovered white screen of death having reinstalling nvidia drivers via command line in recovery mode. when rebooted after that, fine, except 1 of monitors not displaying anything. ran sudo nvidia xconfig, created conf file me, issue not resolved. in x server settings, secondary monitor (the 1 not displaying), detected , enabled in twinview, resolution not detected , screen black. if try switching workspaces, little window showing workspaces show second monitor sitting next monitor, same in x server settings. options have resolving this? lot!
