Thread: Re-partitioning Ubuntu
currently have ubuntu installed on computer. want install os alongside ubuntu, , going mean have shrink partition make room other os. here output of fdisk -l:
code:disk /dev/sda: 160.0 gb, 160041885696 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 19457 cylinders, total 312581808 sectors units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes i/o size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes disk identifier: 0x0008b2c7 device boot start end blocks id system /dev/sda1 * 2048 306819071 153408512 83 linux /dev/sda2 306821118 312580095 2879489 5 extended /dev/sda5 306821120 312580095 2879488 82 linux swap / solaris
question small partition labeled "extended"? also, notice there no boot partition. there conflict if create boot partition other os?
in advance.
in partitioning scheme can have 4 primary partitions. if need more partitions, 1 of them needs extended partition in can fit logical partitions.
extended partition container logical partitions. nowadays automatic partitioning seems create 1 primary , place other partitions logical partitions in extended partition.
if delete sda2 (the extended partition), delete sda5 (the logical partition inside it).

it's not problem don't have boot partition; boot information in /boot directory.

last note:
unless use hibernate / suspend ram, can share swap partition between different distros.
