Thread: Please... help me install Ubuntu...


tl;dr: windows 7 graphics updater ******, can't uninstall ubuntu, need black screen problem explained me i'm five. open uninstalling windows , running linux if can walk me through , easier.

please.... love of god... me install ubuntu. sorry if long i've put in 8 hours , want functioning (non-ms) operating system. ready snap.

little background... have new laptop, hp 2000. preinstalled windows 7. tried put ubuntu 12.04 on it, loads black screen. after looking online, found had graphics card. went device manager, did "update driver software" on graphics card (intel(r) hd graphics.). didn't work, came error saying didn't have permission or something. when it, says date. windows updater tells me have update graphics, when try install error. system restore did not solve problem. don't know how has not loading ubuntu, sorry if it's irrelevant.

i've looked online solutions black screen problem, i've tried hasn't worked, though didn't understand lot of (grub, nomodeset, bios screen... not sure supposed half time). found solutions looked might solve booting usb, downloaded installer usb.

unfortunately, can't seem uninstall ubuntu, can't boot usb. when click on wubi installer, told me first uninstall ubuntu before reinstall it, nothing happens. when click uninstall-wubi.exe, error:
"the version of file not compatible version of windows you're running. check computer's system information see whether need x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of program, , contact software publisher."
tried install 32-bit.

yeah. that's story, reading , sorry if it's long. i'm ready snap, busy school , have wasted 8 hours trying put ubuntu on laptop, have no idea next. if have to, open uninstalling windows , running linux (i had previous vista machine), though don't know how , still have graphics card problem. please me!!!

so couple additional questions. "black screen problem" linux thing, or ubuntu? if tried different version of linux work graphics?

if bought boot cd , tried load that, work better/be easier fix?

hi, if developing platform independent software in linux using gtk+/gtkmm , you've managed cross compile windows, guide you. i'm posting because after researching topic myself, encountered many posts people have abandoned gtk+/gtkmm wxwidgets because of gtks ugly default appearance in windows/wine. gtk+ themeable in windows/wine gnome. have set correctly . . . here's how. guide gtkmm gtk+ similar. Thread: Twinview issues

hi all, recovered white screen of death having reinstalling nvidia drivers via command line in recovery mode. when rebooted after that, fine, except 1 of monitors not displaying anything. ran sudo nvidia xconfig, created conf file me, issue not resolved. in x server settings, secondary monitor (the 1 not displaying), detected , enabled in twinview, resolution not detected , screen black. if try switching workspaces, little window showing workspaces show second monitor sitting next monitor, same in x server settings. options have resolving this? lot!
