Thread: Video issue


hi,

when try run video file on ubuntu says:

playback of movie requires xvid mpeg-4 decoder plugin not installed.

tried sudo apt-get install xvid gives error:

e: not lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11: resource temporarily unavailable)
e: unable lock administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), process using it?

suggestions?

log out & log in again (to end processes might using resources), install ubuntu-restricted-extras (which contains decoders xvid , bunch of other things).

Thread: Twinview issues

hi all, recovered white screen of death having reinstalling nvidia drivers via command line in recovery mode. when rebooted after that, fine, except 1 of monitors not displaying anything. ran sudo nvidia xconfig, created conf file me, issue not resolved. in x server settings, secondary monitor (the 1 not displaying), detected , enabled in twinview, resolution not detected , screen black. if try switching workspaces, little window showing workspaces show second monitor sitting next monitor, same in x server settings. options have resolving this? lot!
