Thread: Need Setup Advice for Remote Assistance


i given computer tower @ work, going throw away due failed hard drive. spent $100 (usd) new 40gig hd, 2 gig ram, , other accessories make complete system along hardware had laying around @ home. installed xubuntu12.04 operating system (as processor not quite par run ubuntu12.04). runs great , decided give computer mother replace current useless pos (which running win95 believe).

here's issue: live 16 hours away mother. i'll there next week setup , install computer, after that, not regularly available locally assist problems may have.

here's question: know of, , have used, software allow me remotely log on , control computer if , when has problems need fixed???

free great, willing pay (some) software if excellent , no free substitutions available. i've done little research on this, opinion uses ubuntu or xubuntu , has done this.

run both win7 , ubuntu12.04 on end, if makes difference.

Thread: Twinview issues

hi all, recovered white screen of death having reinstalling nvidia drivers via command line in recovery mode. when rebooted after that, fine, except 1 of monitors not displaying anything. ran sudo nvidia xconfig, created conf file me, issue not resolved. in x server settings, secondary monitor (the 1 not displaying), detected , enabled in twinview, resolution not detected , screen black. if try switching workspaces, little window showing workspaces show second monitor sitting next monitor, same in x server settings. options have resolving this? lot!
