Thread: Here's what I want to do....

i've been grinding search boxes of many sites , have exhausted almighty google. perhaps keywords use search have been problem...

my setup:
ubuntu 11.10 (32bit)
lan: 2x routers..1 main router leads (via cat5) second router, connects computer (via cat5).
+ other networked devices ps3 , escient se-d1 (no hdd)
ps3 , se-d1 sharing same router computer.

my goal:
have files on computer become accessible somehow making computer local server devices; granting local access stream media on network these devices.

what i've tried:
> in search, followed instructions setting mysql, apache2, samba, , lamp-server.

i've gathered testing, showing me how make virtual hosts... i'm not entirely sure need do, exception of se-d1. (it requires http:// host play media remote server.)

can of ladies , jelly spoons point me in right direction on - or provide correct terminology future searches on topic?

why not make shared folders media in them? not possible on linux?

mean, i've got same setup (minus having 2 routers [why?!], i've got 1 router, 1 switch), on windows 7 home pc, shares files. xbox connects via ethernet, , families' pcs connect via wifi.

maybe i'm not understanding situation properly, don't see need apache (which i'm pretty sure used exclusively web stuff), mysql (i don't think want databases of media)... yolo, share!


edit: had said ps3 connects pc shared media centre, lied. it's xbox. lol

still though, i'm not quite sure sql or apache server want media files.
