Thread: Best DE for maximum screen space?

i got new laptop , i've been trying lot of different distros see fits. i'm curious how maximize screen space. i'm thinking best way eliminate sort of panel or bar @ top or bottom. suppose need on panel clock, volume button, wireless button, , battery monitor. long de has sort of application launcher , way check on time/wireless/battery without hassle, think it'd fun try.

tried unity , didn't quite it, hiding dock didn't quite work well, finicky , didn't hide correctly of time. top bar implementation off mac version, didn't see file, view, edit, ect. had hover on , wasn't visible.

gnome3 might fit extensions, haven't spent enough time on it.

curious openbox/fluxbox/otherboxes. window manager approach new me, i'm interested see how works. have success those?

you try kde.
can disable panels , put launchers, clocks, systray on desktop.

edit: default, can see widgets/plasmoids placed on desktop pressing ctrl+f12. can interact widgets in mode too.
