when import new brushes/patterns/etc. photoshop, import fine , work fine. however, when go quit photoshop, receive error message reads follows:

screen shot 2013-11-19 @ 4.59.03 am.png

when reopen photoshop after this, brushes , patters opened photoshop not there.

i have looked through forum , saw user having similar issue; issue resolved right clicking on photoshop in applications folder, clicking "get info," , changing permissions user account using set owner. have done that, still receiving message. thought maybe brushes using not set me able read , write; right clicked on them , made sure permissions set account. didn't work either.

i using osx mavericks , photoshop cs5.

i had same problem after migrating snow leopard mavericks.

after reading here , on other forums similar complaints , partial solutions, here how solved problem on machine.

the file ps cannot update "~/library/preferences/adobe photoshop cs5 settings/adobe photoshop cs5 prefs.psp"

although user has read , write access, cannot modified because user has no write access above directory.

the quickest way fix is:

1. open finder window

2. go to  "~/library/preferences/adobe photoshop cs5 settings" typing shift-cmd-g , pasting path between quotes (see note 2 details)

3. info (cmd-i or right click -> info)

4. in "sharing & permissions" section, change privilege "everyone" "read only" "read & write"

note 1: perform step 4 first need open padlock on lower right clicking on , enter administrator's username , password

note 2: in mavericks, ~/library directory hidden default, either perform step 2 jumping straight or press alt key make visible when you're descending directory tree via go command on menu bar
