Certain Photoshop Files take up to 40GB scratch-disc on my hard drive.

no 1 of used files bigger 20mb in filesize. when opening file, empty hard drive space (40gb of free space) decreases zero. temporary file on earth can 40gb big? system imac 24gb ram. how can happen?

edit: found out might called scratch-disc. anyway, how can file take space? photoshop has allocated ram space of 16gb on system.

depending on size of image, history levels, number of layer, etc. file can run on 100 gig, , panarama stich can run 200 gig.
