Thread: Live USB freeze on Splash/Unity Load
hi everyone, i'm new here i've got little bit of outdated linux know-how.
briefly, i'm having problem installing ubuntu 12.04 (.1) lts on desktop , it's driving me mad. here specs first off.
gigabyte ep-45 ud3p
intel core 2 quad q9550
ocz ddr2 8gb's
zotac nvidia 295 gtx
-hard drives
3x western digital 500gbtp-link 300mbps wireless n pci adapater tl-wn851nd
2x seagate 500gb
i've tried 2 methods of trying boot grub menu
1. run usb - choosing usb boot device , letting run usb
2. install usb - choosing install ubuntu usb in grub loader
#1 - results in freeze on splash screen. little holes below ubuntu logo filed.
#2 - results in passing splash screen, after loading in few elements (specifically grey bar @ top of desktop few icons, keyboard, wireless signal strength, speaker , shutdown cog) unity freezes. can move mouse around cannot use keyboard shortcuts or mouse actions. tried use ctrl-alt-f1 , didn't switch tty1.
actions have tried:
- updating bios
- disabling bios settings (ie. ahci/raid, c2/4e, etc.)
- mem-test (did 16 passes without fail)
- cpu test (4 days of prime86 without fail)
- something else.... forget.
- checksummed isos
stumped. have ideas? feel free ask questions else.
ps. cannot provide logs (unless want me type out console spits outs), or screen shots there no usably interface on desktop when try load.
solved. must use -nomodeset option first boot if have nvidia card.
