Thread: Install freezes on black screen and animated cursor

i have small army of ibm netvista pcs (1.8ghz), 384-512mb ram, 10-40 gb drives. fresh copy of windows xp slow these old work dogs install snappier os. tried puppy linux 5.2.8 seemed terse hand on casual pc users want surf net , watch dvds. lightweight version of ubuntu find lubuntu , i'd working if @ possible since seems mix of performance , user-friendliness.

think this bug affecting installation on these pcs. however, not understand how 1 can "jump terminal" screen , delete files when in process of installing bare-metal new pc.

have tried turning off various f6 options such noapic , nolapic cannot past "copying files" part shortly after asks name, pc name, id , password. shows couple of info screens , last 1 mentions lxde desktop. screen goes black , cursor shows "thinking" animation. numlock can still toggled pc not locked not respond ctrl+c or ctrl+alt+del either. when reaches point, have pull power.

cd image downloaded verified error free , burned cd-rom verified made correctly , disc closed prevent further writing. have tested hard drive, ram , video card hardware , checks out ok. installed windows xp , got patched make sure system stable (that took couple of days!)

i'm stuck , out of ideas.

lhammonds

you should able virtual console (terminal) pressing, example, ctrl-alt-f1 @ same time.
